Astral: An Early Build


This video shows an early build of Astral and shows some of the game world, the atmosphere, the game mechanics and the enemy AI.

The game world that is shown in the video is one that was shown in the previous blog post but this video shows it in action. The design was based off of several different drawings and such of Asylums that existed around the late 1800s.

The atmosphere that has been created in the game world is achieved through a mix of the lack of vision the charcter has and the sound design present in the game.

The game mechanics and gameplay of Astral are on dislay in this video. The lack of light and the need for the player to create sound to light up the environment can be seen. The clap that lghts up the environment is shown to attact the enemy AI and the need for the player to run and hide can be seen. The radiators that light up the environment throught the sound of their steam can be seen as well.

The enemy AI can be seen briefly in this video. It is shown to be attracted to the sound that the player creates to light up their environment and is shown to chase them throught the environment until the player successfully hides and the enemy returns to its patrol.

Each of these aspects will be looked at and explained in further detail in future blog posts, but for now this video is meant to show the game in action.
